NEWS FLASH: Mixed Company's Artistic Director The best of Brisbane theatre for 2011 was recognized on Monday night at the annual Matilda Awards, the Brisbane equivalent of the Green Room or the Helpmann Awards. The Matilda's were also celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, 25 years of providing a platform to promote and applaud the local theatre scene. Each year five major Matilda Awards are presented which can be awarded for outstanding work in any area of the theatre industry and may be given for a body of work, or for a single work. Red Dog and Underbelly: Razor star and former Matilda recipient John Batchelor announced the five arts practitioners deemed the "best of the best", alongside 10 category Commendation winners. Actors Melanie Zanetti and Steven Rooke, artistic director of independent troupe Mixed Company, Simone de Haas, designer Josh McIntosh and playwright Marcel Dorney received one-of-a-kind handmade trophies in honour of their outstanding achievements in 2011. www.matildaawards.com.au |
